Happy first day of August! I am so excited to team up with Annie Selke’s Dash & Albert for a post on my family room update and how to instantly change a room by selecting the perfect rug. A rug is such an impactful decor item and an important component of a room. Today I am sharing my tips on selecting the right size and sharing a before photo and some after photos of the impact the right rug can make in a space.
We moved into our new home in June and have been slowly updating the house. The one room I can’t wait to finish is our family room since we spend a lot of time in it. When we bought this house our family room looked very different (see before picture below). My goal was to brighten the room and make it feel cozy. We are still waiting on some furniture pieces to complete the space but I wanted to share my rug and what a difference a rug can make in space. I absolutely love Annie Selke’s line of Dash & Albert Rugs. Their woven rugs are amazing quality at an excellent price point. For this space I chose a 9×12 rug that fit my space perfectly. This rug is the Dash & Albert Checks Pearl Gray Rug from their fun C3 Collection.

How To Select A Rug for Living/Family Room:
1). Measure your space and your seating area dimensions.
2). At a minimum the front legs of your seating furniture should all fit on the rug (ideally all if floating your furniture).
3). Make sure the rug doesn’t look to small or too large in the space. Choose a rug size that compliments your furniture well. It’s always nice too to see some of the flooring outline as well.
4). A great trick is to use painter’s tape in the rug size you are thinking. Place it on the ground in your space to make sure you feel comfortable with the size.
We are still waiting on art & furniture to arrive but I can’t believe the amazing difference my rug has made in this space!
Hope you enjoyed this post! I partnered with Annie Selke’s Dash & Albert on this post but as usual all opinions are my own.
Love the rug you picked! All your rooms are so bright and airy!
Thank you! It’s nice to have it coming together!
